Pre-Paid Plans

Planning your funeral with Hammerton’s Independent Funeral Directors

An increasing number of people now choose to pay for their funerals themselves, rather than set aside a sum of money or take out an insurance policy towards cost. Insurance and savings options may require additional money towards the funeral to meet the full cost. However, with a Hammerton Funeral Plan the service has already been paid for – a much more practical solution. And unlike some funeral plans, Hammerton’s Independent Funeral Directors still fully guarantee the disbursement (third party costs) element of the plan as well as our own professional costs.

How do funeral plans work?

A funeral plan allows you to pay the cost of the funeral director’s services at today’s prices, which gives you more control over your funeral arrangements. We believe it’s important for you to get the funeral you want, and for your family to receive a genuinely personal service when it really counts. When the time comes, just one phone call to your funeral director will activate your plan and your wishes will be carried out accordingly.

A guarantee that covers all services included in your plan

No matter how much funeral costs may rise in the future, once your plan is fully in place, neither you nor your loved ones will be asked for a penny more. It’s a guarantee that gives you peace of mind. You can be assured that your family will be spared from the burden of financial worry.

A sound financial decision

When you take out a Hammerton Funeral Plan, you have the reassurance that your money is protected. You select how you wish to pay for your plan and your money is paid into the Golden Charter Trust. Over time your money grows and, when the time comes, we receive the payment, including any growth, and use this money to provide the agreed services to you and your family. No matter how much costs have risen in the intervening period, your loved ones will not be asked for a penny more for the guaranteed services within your plan.

Protection against rising funeral costs

Recent research carried out by Mintel shows the average cost of a funeral in the UK has increased by 88% in ten years, well above the general level of inflation. Paying in advance for your funeral is a sensible decision that will save money, benefitting your family or estate. We guarantee that, as long as your plan is paid for, there’ll be no more to pay for the services included within your plan.

Your wishes fulfilled by Hammerton’s

Most people don’t want to think about arranging their own funeral. That’s natural. But there is some quiet satisfaction to be gained from putting your affairs in order and reflecting on the most appropriate arrangements. Many personal decisions have to be made. Your wishes are special – and you can be sure we will carry them out to the letter.

What you’ll receive when you take out a plan

If you are paying by single payment, we’ll send you a Certificate of Entitlement to funeral services and a membership card, which should be kept in a safe place. You’ll also receive a copy of the Certificate of Entitlement to give to your next of kin so they are aware that you hold a plan, and know how to proceed when the time comes.

If you are not paying by a single payment, a provisional membership card will be issued to you which will be replaced by a full membership card and a Certificate of Entitlement when the total amount has been paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about our funeral plans.

What if I move to a different area?

You may select a different funeral director. Just inform us of your move and we will advise you appropriately at the time.

What if death occurs while I’m on holiday?

Our plans include removal of the deceased within a 20 mile radius of Barnsley at any time of the day or night. If death occurs beyond the 20 mile radius but within the UK, we will repatriate you back to Barnsley although there may be a small charge at the time of need for this service.  If you intend to travel overseas, we recommend that your travel or medical insurance policy includes cover for repatriation costs back to the UK.

What if I’m not in good health?

We promise to accept your application regardless of your state of health.

What if I want to take the plan out for someone else?

That’s fine, just tell us at the time of taking the plan out and we will arrange for all correspondence to be sent to you as the plan holder’s representative.

What if I live to be 100 years old?

No matter how old you are, no matter how much funeral costs may rise, you and your loved ones will never be asked for a penny more for the services and costs guaranteed within your funeral plan.
